Sony Pictures officially has a director lined up to helm its live-action Robotech film project. The film is currently in development with Rhys Thomas—who most recently served as main director on Marvel’s Hawkeye series that streamed on Disney+—directing, based on a script by Marcum & Holloway with a rewrite by Brian Gatewood and Allesandro Tanaka.
Harmony Gold is also attached to the film, which has been in the works in some form since the mid-2000s. Based on Harmony Gold’s ’80s localization of the Macross saga, there isn’t too much else to go on about the production, so we’ll just have to sit tight and see how this one plays out.
Hopefully it eventually makes its way to the screen, especially considering the recent agreement between Big West and Harmony Gold that allowed for greater distribution of both Robotech and the Macross series on which it was based.
