A series about a disaster hitting Japan in 2020, huh? Seems a little on the nose.
Of course, Japan Sinks 2020, the latest series from Eizouken director Masaaki Yuasa, was greenlit long before Coronavirus began to sink its teeth into Japan. For one, it still features the Olympics taking place in 2020!
It’s a different kind of disaster, too. In the series, Japan is hit by a massive earthquake following the Olympics. The action follows the Muto family as they try to survive as Japan literally sinks.
Now the series has lined up its main cast—plus, we’ve got a few screenshots of what it’ll look like.
The Muto family will be played by:
Reina Ueda (Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba) as Ayumu Muto, a 14-year-old track and field athlete.
Tomo Muranaka (World Trigger) as Go Muto, Ayumu’s younger brother who loves online games.
Yuko Sasaki (Chibi Maruko-chan) as Mari Muto, Ayumu and Go’s mother, a former professional swimmer.
Masaki Terasoma (Detective Conan) as tough and intelligent dad Koichiro Muto.
Meanwhile, here’s the crew of the series:
Director: Masaaki Yuasa (Keep Your Hands Off Eizuouken!)
Series Director: Pyeonggang Heo (Tatami Galaxy episode director)
Series Composition: Toshio Yoshitaka (Dragon Ball Super)
Character Design: Naoya Wada (Flip Flappers animation director)
