ghost, Shingo Natsume-Directed Original Anime Film, Announced

ghost, Shingo Natsume-Directed Original Anime Film, AnnouncedWhat do you get when you combine director Shingo Natsume, manga-ka Natsume Ono and studio Madhouse? ghost, a new original anime film that’s just been announced for 2027.

Here’s how Bandai Namco Filmworks describes the film:

Everyone has a “ghost” in their hearts. It is a genuine feeling that is there but inexpressible. In this work, the girl Nike opposes the absurdity of the world in order to protect the “starry sky.” This challenging work expresses Nike’s solitude and heroism, and the subtleties of the heart as she interacts with others.

Shingo Natsume is, of course, the director behind shows like ACCA: 13-Territory Inspection Dept., Sonny Boy and Tatami Time Machine Blues, while Natsume Ono is the original creator of ACCA, plus stuff like Not Simple and House of Five Leaves.

In addition to directing, Natsume is writing the script. Ono is providing original character designs. Norifumi Kugai, who worked on ACCA and Sonny Boy, is adapting said designs for animation.

The project is being shown off at Annecy/MIFA this week.

Shingo Natsume’s one of my favorite directors working right now, so I’m thrilled to see him helm an original anime film. In two years. Come on, 2027!
