Demon Slayer Movie Wins Animation of the Year at Japan Academy Awards

mugen trainThe accolades keep rolling in for the Demon Slayer movie. Mugen Train may have missed its stop as an Academy Awards nominee, but it did manage to take home the Japan Academy Film Prize for Animation of the Year at the 44th Japan Academy Awards.

The event was held this week at the Grand Prince Hotel Takanawa in Tokyo, taking the opportunity to reveal the best works from Japan and abroad in 2020. The prize for the Demon Slayer movie was collected by Aniplex representative director Atsuhiro Iwakami. Upon the acceptance he expressed his “heartfelt gratitude to the anime staff and everyone who brought the characters to life.”

Beyond the main award, winners of the Excellent Animation of the Year awards for 2020 include Violet Evergarden: The Movie, Poupelle of Chimney Town, Josee The Tiger and the Fish, and Stand by Me Doraemon 2. The Demon Slayer movie is the first franchise anime film to win the main Animation of the Year prize.
