You Can See a Giant 3D Red XIII in Tokyo, Running from Shinra

Over in Japan there’s currently a limited time sale going on for Final Fantasy VII Remake and Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade. As part of the promotion for this, Square Enix released a video that looks like a news report, telling us that Red XIII has escaped from Shinra. It’s all hands on deck to find him and report back to Shinra.

But that’s not all Square Enix has up its sleeve for this promotion! Because you actually can find Red XIII in the real world, if you know where to look.

And where is that? Look no farther than the 3D video billboard screen Omotesando Hit Vision in Tokyo. The 3-D video makes it look as if Red XIII is real. You can see him running from Shinra, being chased by a helicopter, and finally getting someplace safe.

Fans in Japan are encouraged to share this sighting with the Japanese hashtag that translates to“Shinra Recapturing Measures Office,” and follow @FFVIIR_CLOUD. This gets them in the running for prizes, including their own Red XIII plushie. (Again, this campaign is just for people in Japan.)

Japanese netizens have written remarks like:

“I desperately want to go see this!”
“Red XIII’s acting like a big feline!”
“This is cool and cute at the same time!”

As the sales are limited, so is Red XIII’s time on the billboard. He’ll be there until January 2, at which point he’ll disappear again and a different 3D ad will take his place.

Square Enix gave this description of Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade:

“FINAL FANTASY VII REMAKE INTERGRADE is a visually enhanced edition of the critically acclaimed and award-winning FINAL FANTASY VII REMAKE. The game also features FF7R EPISODE INTERmission featuring Yuffie as the main character, introducing an exhilarating new story arc, and numerous gameplay additions for players to enjoy.”
