Yoshitoshi ABe Exhibition Celebrates Serial Experiments Lain, More

Yoshitoshi ABe Exhibition Celebrates Serial Experiments Lain, MoreIt’s been almost 30 years since the debut of Serial Experiments Lain, the contemplative technopunk anime that introduced many to the character designs of one Yoshitoshi ABe.

ABe, also known as a street and manga artist, went on to do the designs for unique anime like NieA_7, Texhnolyze and Haibane Renmei, which was based on his original doujinshi.

Now an exhibition in Shibuya, Tokyo is set to celebrate ABe’s nearly three decades on the anime scene. The show, which opens this Friday, July 5 at Space Caiman Shibuya, is called “Enkan Kiten,” which means something like “coming full circle.”

The exhibition, which runs until August 31, features rare ABe materials like original drawings and paintings and a “life-size version of Lain as she is in Shibuya today.” Cool! As with most exhibitions like this, there will also be some merchandise, including stickers and acrylic stands.

Information on opening dates and times can be found on the official site.
