Vinland Saga Season 2 Drops Intense New Trailer with Opening Theme Song

vinland saga season 2

The second season of the Vinland Saga anime is being released on January 9, and a trailer for it has dropped. In it you can hear part of the opening theme song “River” being performed by Anonymouz.

In Japan, the anime will play on Tokyo MX, BS11, Gifu Broadcasting, and AT-X. People outside of Japan will be able to stream it on different services, including Crunchyroll and Netflix.

The following actors are back for their roles: Yūto Uemura plays Thorfinn, Kensho Ono plays Canute, Akio Ohtsuka plays Thorkell, and Yōji Ueda plays Leif Ericson.

And new actors were also announced: Shunsuke Takeuchi plays Einar, Mayumi Sako plays Arnheid, Fuminori Komatsu plays Snake, Yuu Hayashi plays Olmar, Taiten Kusunoki plays Thorgil, Hideaki Tezuka plays Ketil, and Mugihito plays Sverkel.

The animation was previously done at Wit Studio, but this season it’s being switched over to MAPPA. Shūhei Yabuta is back as the director and Hiroshi Seko is back to write the scripts and supervise them.

Vinland Saga started out as a manga series created by Makoto Yukimura. Kodansha publishes the series in English, and gave this description for its plot:

“As a child, Thorfinn sat at the feet of the great Leif Ericson and thrilled to wild tales of a land far to the west. But his youthful fantasies were shattered by a mercenary raid. Raised by the Vikings who murdered his family, Thorfinn became a terrifying warrior, forever seeking to kill the band’s leader, Askeladd, and avenge his father. Sustaining Throfinn through his ordeal are his pride in his family and his dreams of a fertile westward land, a land without war or slavery … the land Leif called Vinland.”

Yukimura previously said he thought the anime did a better job telling the story than his own manga did. We’ll see if he still thinks that with season two!
