Vinland Saga Manga End Date Announced

vinland saga

After 20 years of serialization, it’s almost time to bid a fond farewell to the Vinland Saga manga. Author Makoto Yukimura hopped on X (formerly Twitter) to confirm that the series will be taking the month off for the next issue of Monthly Afternoon magazine, but will return with the final chapter on July 25.

The final installment will be chapter 220, with an official announcement to follow in the pages of Monthly Afternoon. Yukimura first started talking about working on the lengthy final arc back in 2019.

The Vinland Saga manga kicked off on April 13, 2005, starting in Weekly Shonen Magazine before moving to Monthly Afternoon that December. 28 volumes have been published to date, and the series inspired an anime adaptation that aired its first season in 2019.

The second season followed in 2023, and both are available to stream on Crunchyroll. Kodansha publishes the manga in English and describes it like so:

As a child, Thorfinn sat at the feet of the great Leif Ericson and thrilled to wild tales of a land far to the west. But his youthful fantasies were shattered by a mercenary raid. Raised by the Vikings who murdered his family, Thorfinn became a terrifying warrior, forever seeking to kill the band’s leader, Askeladd, and avenge his father. Sustaining Thorfinn through his ordeal are his pride in his family and his dreams of a fertile westward land, a land without war or slavery… the land Leif called Vinland.
