super mario bros.

History was recently made at Dallas, TX-based auction house Heritage Auctions, which set a new bidding and auction sales record for a high-grade boxed and sealed video game. The game in question was none other than the retail version of the Nintendo Entertainment System’s flagship title, Super Mario Bros., which went for a whopping $114,000 last Friday.

Prior to the SMB record, the highest-selling boxed, sealed, and graded video game was Capcom’s original Mega Man, which launched on NES in 1987 and sold for $75,000 in 2019.

What’s the most you’ve ever paid for a classic game? It may not have gotten anywhere close to $114k, but let us know in the comments!
