A trailer has been released for the second half of the anime Requiem of the Rose King (known as Bara-Ō no Sōretsu in Japanese). The trailer tells us more about the upcoming cast, and lets us listen to the song “Bara Rinbukyoku” (translated as “Rose Briar Rondo”) being performed by Makoto Furukawa, the same artist who performs the opening theme song for the first half of the anime.
According to the trailer, here are the new actors who will be added: Hikaru Midorikawa will play Sir James Tyrell; Yuko Kaida will play Jane Shore; Akira Ishida will play the Duke of Richmond; Haruki Ishiya will play Anthony Woodville; Atsushi Tamaru will play Thomas Grey, Marquess of Dorset; and Shunichi Toki will play Sir Richard Grey.
The anime series is based on the manga series of the same name by Aya Kanno (Otomen), which in turn is based on Shakespeare’s Richard III, which in turn is based on the life of (you guessed it) Richard III. But don’t expect it to be all accurate to history. The manga is being released in America by VIZ Media, with the fifteenth volume set to come out in May.
The anime is being made at J.C. Staff, with Kentarō Suzuki — who previously worked on Angels of Death and Kud Wafter — working as the director. The task of both supervising and writing the series scripts goes to Hiroki Uchida.
Funimation is providing the English dub of the anime, and gave this description of the series:
“The Wars of the Roses grip medieval England as the houses of York and Lancaster vie for the throne. Richard is the third son of the Duke of York, who plans to take the crown.
Richard wants nothing more than for this to happen, but this innocent wish will plunge England further into the chaos of war. Meanwhile, Richard is struggling with a battle far more personal.”
