Marvel’s Bestselling Comic This Year is a Deadpool Manga

As of March 2021, Marvel’s biggest seller this year is Deadpool: Samurai, which is being published in Japan on the Shonen Jump+ app. Written and illustrated by Sanshirou Kasama and Hikaru Uesugi, it has Deadpool go back in time to feudal Japan.

While we’re only in the third month of 2021, the first two chapters of Deadpool: Samurai have been read more than a million times. Wolverine #1, Marvel’s bestselling comic in 2020, shipped out 196,441 comics for the entire year. In 2015 Marvel reached more than a million copies with Star Wars #1, but that was an outlier.

One of the bonuses Deadpool: Samurai has is the fact that it’s a free read on the app. Despite all the success in Japan, so far there’s no word of it being translated into English and sold in America.
