Magic: The Gathering Shows Off Its Long-Awaited Final Fantasy Cards

Two beloved franchises are coming together with Magic: The Gathering bringing out a Final Fantasy set. While there have been little teases about it over the years, we finally have a first look at the cards and an official 2025 release date. The cards, which are due out in June, showcase characters from the first to sixteenth Final Fantasy games.

Magic: The Gathering put out two videos to better explain what’s going on. In this video you’ll get your first look at the following cards: Terra, Herald of Hope; Cloud, Ex-SOLDIER; Tidus, Yuna’s Guardian; Y’shtola, Night’s Blessed; Sin, Spira’s Punishment; Jumbo Catuar; Tonberry; Sazh’s Chocobo; Stiltzkin, Moogle Merchant; Garland, Knight of Cornelia/Chaos, the Endless; Cecil, Dark Knight/Cecil, Redeemed Paladin; Emet-Selch, Unsundered/Hades, Sorcer of Eld; Sidequest: Catch a Fish/Cooking Campsite; Food Token; Summon Shivia; Dragon of Mount Gulg (Ancient Copper Dragon); Yuffie Kisaragi (Yuriko, the Tiger’s Shadow); Sephiroth, Planet’s Heir; and Cloud, Planet’s Champion.

Then there is this much longer video where Magic: The Gathering designers Gavin Verhey and Zakeel Gordon chat with host Blake Rasmussen about the cards. The set has been years in the making, and you can see the passion and excitement from the designers. (In fact, the first game Verhey got was the original Final Fantasy.) According to this video, the designers worked closely with Square Enix. This video also gives you a look at the cards, and additionally shares a lot of behind-the-scenes information.

While the cards still won’t be here for a few months, they are available for preorder at the usual places.

Magic: The Gathering gave this description for their Final Fantasy cards:

MTG x Final Fantasy Summary
