Back in June we got word that Love Live! Sunshine!! fantasy spinoff Genjitsu no Yohane -Sunshine in the Mirror-, which is a series of magazine illustrations, is being adapted into an anime. Now we have an idea of the timing, with the official website confirming that the anime will premiere in Japan this July on the Tokyo MX and BS11 networks.
Here’s the video that went along with the news:
The illustrations by Taira Akitsu have been published in Love Live! Days Love Live! Sōgō Magazine since October 2020, and Kota Matsuda launched a manga series inspired by them back in February of 2022. The anime is being directed by Asami Nakatani (Ensemble Stars!! Road to Show!!), with Toshiya Ono (86 EIGHTY-SIX) supervising scripts and Yumiko Yamamoto (Sword Art Online Alicization War of Underworld) handling character designs.
In the world of Genjitsu no Yohane -Sunshine in the Mirror-, the chunibyo-afflicted idol Yoshiko Tsushima, AKA Yohane, is reimagined as a fortune teller in a story set in the scenic harbor town of Numazu. She’s never fit in where she lives, and aspires to find her true place elsewhere in the fantasy world.
Love Live! Sunshine!! cast members returning include Aika Kobayashi as Yohane, Kanako Takatsuki as Hanamaru, Arise Komiya as Dia and more.
