Anime film releases aren’t the only events feeling the effects of the third State of Emergency enacted in Japan. The Love Live! franchise was getting ready to continue its fifth anniversary project for VA unit Aqours with an outdoor concert called Love Live! Sunshine!! Aqours 5th Anniversary LoveLive! ~LET’S GO WONDER TRIP~. The concert was planned for May 1 and 2 at the Tsumagoi Resort Sai no Sato hotel, but it has unfortunately been canceled due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
While the State of Emergency doesn’t currently apply to the hotel’s location of Kakegawa-city, Shizuoka Prefecture, the area’s expert panel decided that large-scale events such as this one should be canceled for now.
Here’s an excerpt from the official statement:
Celebrating the fifth anniversary of the formation of Aqours, the members and production staff had been working together to prepare to deliver the best performance as its memorial concert. We are very disappointed with this result, but we will do our best to hold the concert on another day, so please wait for a while … We are currently trying to arrange a replacement date for the concert, but please understand that we may have no choice but to cancel the concert itself if we are unable to arrange a new date.
