Love Live! Sunshine!! Fantasy Spinoff Inspires 2023 Anime

love live! sunshine!!

Genjitsu no Yohane -Sunshine in the Mirror- is a series of magazine illustrations based on the Love Live! Sunshine!! series, and it’s officially getting an anime adaptation. An anime was previously teased as an April Fools’ gag earlier this year, but now it’s actually in the works for a premiere sometime in 2023.

The announcement was made during the Love Live! Sunshine!! Aqours 6th Love Live! ~Ku-Ru-Ku-Ru Rock ‘n’ Roll Tour~ Windy Stage concert on Sunday, and it made its way online with the video reveal below.

The illustrations by Taira Akitsu have been published in Love Live! Days Love Live! Sōgō Magazine since October 2020, and Kota Matsuda launched a manga series inspired by them back in February of 2022. The anime is being directed by Asami Nakatani (Ensemble Stars!! Road to Show!!), with Toshiya Ono (86 EIGHTY-SIX) supervising scripts and Yumiko Yamamoto (Sword Art Online Alicization War of Underworld) handling character designs.

In the world of Genjitsu no Yohane -Sunshine in the Mirror-, the chunibyo-afflicted idol Yoshiko Tsushima, AKA Yohane, is reimagined as a fortune teller in a story set in the scenic harbor town of Numazu. She’s never fit in where she lives, and aspires to find her true place elsewhere in the fantasy world.

Love Live! Sunshine!! cast members returning include Aika Kobayashi as Yohane, Kanako Takatsuki as Hanamaru, Arise Komiya as Dia and more.
