Hello Kitty Shinkansen Starts Speeding Through Japan Next Month

Hello Kitty ShinkansenStarting June 30, Japanese travelers will be able to move at the speed of kawaii.

That’s when the country’s Hello Kitty Shinkansen, or bullet train, is set to debut.

Details about the train, including its look and a sneak peek movie, were revealed this week.

The train, which is operated by JR West, will make trips between Osaka and Fukuoka once a day. In addition to the exterior, the inside of the train will also be Kitty-ified. That includes the train’s so-called Kawaii! Room, where you can take a picture with Kitty herself.

This isn’t the first time pop culture has been incorporated into Japan’s ultra-high-speed trains: from 2015 to 2018, the same Osaka-Fukuoka route hosted an Evangelion-themed train.
