Earlier this month, Fortnite Festival hinted that none other than Vocaloid Hatsune Miku would be getting involved with the video game franchise. Now the cat’s out of the bag as the official details are being released!
Fortnite’s website explains that Miku is the Icon for Fortnite Festival Season 7. This happens with the v33.20 update today and lasts until April 8, 2025.
It lists some of the things you can do while Miku is around. For example: “Pick up the Music Pass for 1,400 V-Bucks — or get it through Fortnite Crew — and you’ll immediately unlock the iconic Neko Hatsune Miku Outfit. (This Outfit has a LEGO Style for LEGO experiences!) At the end of the Music Pass is Neko Hatsune Miku’s Brite Hatsune Miku Style inspired by Brite Bomber and the Fortnite Battle Royale Supply Llama.”
Or you could do this: “Show the crowd what the future of music sounds like with the Neko Miku Keytar and light up the stage with the Neko Miku Guitar. Fancy a change of color? Be bubbly in purple instead of pink with the unlockable Miku Brite Style of the Neko Miku Keytar!”
Miku herself has quite a list of accomplishments for someone who isn’t real. She’s been involved with Coachella, teamed up with My Little Pony for a figure, worked as an official fighter against the COVID pandemic, and (very unofficially) “got married” to someone who says he’s inspired by her. We also have the upcoming movie COLORFUL STAGE! The Movie: A Miku Who Can’t Sing (original title Gekijо̄ban Project Sekai: Kowareta Sekai to Utaenai Miku) which will hit Japanese theaters at the same time this Fortnite collaboration is going on.
This is also far from the first time Fortnite has joined forces with franchises that interest otaku. In the past, it’s also teamed up with Attack on Titan, Naruto, and JUJUTSU KAISEN.
