The Haruhi Suzumiya franchise, which is getting a new light novel this month titled The Theater of Haruhi Suzumiya, is holding a crowdfunding campaign to make a song and music video, among other things. While the campaign will continue to January 15, it made its goal of 25 million yen on the very first day!
The song will star Haruhi, Mikuru and Nagato, and the music video is supposed to have 3D dancing versions of the same characters. The people behind the anime adaptation’s ending theme song “Hare Hare Yukai” will be involved with the new song. That means that the music is being composed by Tomokazu Tashiro and the lyrics are being penned by Aki Hata.
On top of this, there will be an original voice drama with the voices of the SOS Brigade. That means Aya Hirano, Tomokazu Sugita, Minori Chihara, Yūko Gotō and Daisuke Ono are all reprising their roles.
We can expect the song and music video sometime in the first six months of next year.
While the campaign has more than made its goal, people can still contribute if they want to take part.
Yen Press publishes the original Haruhi Suzumiya light novels, and gave this description for The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya:
The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya Plot
Meet Haruhi – a cute, determined girl, starting high school in a city where nothing exciting happens and absolutely no one understands her. Meet Kyon — the sarcastic guy who sits behind Haruhi in homeroom and the only boy Haruhi has ever opened up to. His fate is now tied to hers. Meet the S.O.S. Brigade – an after-school club organized by Haruhi with a mission to seek out the extraordinary. Oh, and their second mission? Keeping Haruhi happy . . . because even though she doesn’t know it, Haruhi has the power to destroy the universe. Seriously.
