Haruhi, Lucky Star 20th Anniversary Event Planned

Haruhi, Lucky Star 20th Anniversary Event Planned Two big franchises, Haruhi Suzumiya and Lucky Star, are, believe it or not, 20 years old this year.

The first Haruhi Suzumiya light novel was published in June 2003, while the Lucky Star manga kicked off in December of the same year.

Both properties were later adapted into well-regarded anime series by Kyoto Animation.

Now an event to celebrate the 20th anniversary of both Haruhi and Lucky Star has been announced. It’s set for March 9 to 24 at Tokorozawa Sakura Town in Saitama, not far from Tokyo. There will be special screenings and live events throughout that time period.

Merch on offer will include shirts, towels, bags, posters and all that good stuff. The official site is here.

Here’s the official description of the first volume of Haruhi:

When Haruhi Suzumiya introduces herself to Kyon by asking if he’s an alien, time traveler, or psychic, he knows his chances for a normal high school experience are ruined. Bold Haruhi takes a shine to him, and uses the force of her irrepressible personality to draft him into her club to find paranormal beings. Kyon soon discovers what she’s looking for: Haruhi herself has the power to destroy and create entire universes at her whim. But if she knew about her ability, it could spell disaster for everyone.

And here’s Lucky Star:

What’s the best way to eat dessert? Do twins really have a psychic connection? What kind of guys are into moe girls? These are the kinds of questions that float through the inquisitive mind of anime super-fan Konata Izumi. When she’s not lost in her favorite manga or logging hours in one of her online games, she’s debating the mysteries of the universe with the best friends a girl could ask for.
