No matter how much you think you know about Evangelion, there are some secrets about the series and its characters that will never leave Hideaki Anno’s mind. In other cases, there are even secrets he’s told some of the cast members, including Mari Illustrious Makinami voice actor Maaya Sakamoto. These secrets are apparently so juicy that Sakamoto said she’ll take them to her grave.
According to a report from Movie Walker Press, Sakamoto said, “I don’t know what extent I can say what I heard [about Mari] from Anno… There is a lot that’s never been said to anyone.”
She went on to say that she wouldn’t say if she didn’t get explicit permission from Hideaki Anno. “No way, no way, no way!” she emphatically added. “Honestly, I feel like a truly frightening thing has been handed over to me.”
What type of secret about Mari could be so deep that one would need to take it to their grave? We quite literally may never know!
