Detective Conan Teams Up With McDonald’s Japan

The newest Detective Conan movie, Detective Conan: One-eyed Flashback, will hit Japanese theaters next week. Ahead of this, the series (which is also sometimes known as Case Closed) has teamed up with McDonald’s Japan for some mysteriously tasty food.

Conan is helping to advertise the Chicken Tatsuta burger, the Tartar Nanban Chicken Tatsuta, and the Rice Chicken Tatsuta burger. You can see the various little ads here.

McDonald’s is a popular restaurant chain in Japan, and it previously teamed up with properties like Hatsune Miku, Demon Slayer, and One Piece. And while the otaku themes have mainly stayed with McDonald’s Japan, last year McDonald’s in America showed its love for otaku culture by rolling out its WcDonald’s campaign. (Sometimes in manga and anime, there’s a restaurant referred to as WcDonald’s that’s obviously a spoof of the real Golden Arches restaurant.)

VIZ Media publishes the original manga under the title Case Closed as opposed to Detective Conan, and gave this description for the first volume:

Case Closed Plot

Ghastly beheadings, bloody murders, and coldhearted child abductions–

Precocious high school student Jimmy Kudo uses his keen powers of observation and astute intuition to solve mysteries that have left law enforcement officials baffled. Hot on the trail of a suspect, Jimmy is accosted from behind and fed a strange chemical which physically transforms him into a grade schooler! Taking on the pseudonym Conan Edogawa, he attempts to track down the people who did this to him. But until he finds a cure for his bizarre condition, Jimmy continues to help the police solve their toughest cases.

Can you crack the case before Conan does?

Gosho Aoyama, the creator of Detective Conan/Case Closed, also has his manga YAIBA: Samurai Legend available for pre-order, with the first volume scheduled to come out in July from VIZ Media.
