One Piece, Case Closed, Attack on Titan VA Bill Flynn Has Passed

There is sad news as the public learns about the passing of actor Bill Flynn, who contributed his voice talents to multiple anime. He was born on September 9, 1938 and passed away on July 4 at 86.

He also went by William Flynn.

His obituary talked about how he got into acting, saying, “The seed that was planted by a chance meeting with Helen Hayes in his childhood germinated as a hobby and grew into an acting career, first in theater and later in film, TV and voiceover. He would accumulate a long list of credits playing a variety of roles that established him as a respected member of the Dallas acting community.”

Other than acting, he also did advocacy for people with disabilities, was a staff educator at the Texas Rehabilitation Commission, and had a seminar series titled “Care and Feeding of Actors.”

In terms of his anime work, he was Kosaku Kotoishi in Barakamon, Dr. Agasa in six Case Closed films and Funimation’s first dub of the series, Captain Rabollo in Gunslinger Girl, Aranami in Hal, Grandpa in Heaven’s Lost Property, Friedrich IV in The Legend of the Galactic Heroes: Die Neue These, and Genzo in the Funimation dub of One Piece.

Flynn also had smaller roles in dozens of other anime, including Roy in Attack on Titan, Frey in D.Gray-man, Crux and Robaul in Fairy Tail, Captain Wada in Golden Kamuy, Edmalis Falmuth in That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime, the Mayor in Tsubasa: RESERVoir CHRoNiCLE, and many more.

On August 16, at 11:30 AM, a memorial service will be hosted for him at Restland FH Memorial Chapel in Dallas. The Restland Funeral Home additionally has a website where you can leave well wishes and favorite memories involving Flynn to honor his work and memory. His talents touched many people during his life.
