Tokyo’s otaku mecca is getting ready to roll out the red carpet. Last week the first Akihabara International Film Festival was announced for November 9 to 11 of this year.
The festival will reportedly have a red carpet, opening ceremony, premiere and special screenings, talk shows, a short animation competition and a closing ceremony. The red carpet is set to be held at Kanda Myojin Shrine and be attended by actors and voice actors.
Competing are animated shorts under 15 minutes of length from in and outside Japan. Submissions are now open on the festival’s official page.
The opening film will be the Taiwanese animated film Pigsy, which was released in Taiwan in May of this year.
With the announcement of the Akihabara International Film Festival only a little over a month before it’s set to take place, it’ll be interesting to see what comes together. If you’re in Akiba from November 9 to 11, it might be worth taking a look.
