Dropkick on My Devil!, the anime based on the manga by Yukiwo, just wrapped up its third season (Dropkick on My Devil!!! X).
Now, going forward, the staff of the anime is looking to fund future episodes in a less conventional way—via crowdfunding.
That’s the word from the official Dropkick on My Devil! website, which just announced the “fourth season project.” The idea is to crowdfund one new episode at a time and release it as an OVA, eventually creating a new 12-episode season, which would then be broadcast.
For each episode, the team is looking to raise 30 million yen (about $207,000 at the current crazy exchange rate).
In return for contributing to the fund, backers will be treated to a Dropkick on My Devil! festival, featuring stage events, screenings, booths, cosplay and more.
The most recent season, Dropkick on My Devil!!! X, was also partially funded by crowdfunding, raising about $350,000 in total. It sounds like they’re getting even more ambitious for season 4. Here’s wishing them the best.
Here’s how Crunchyroll describes the first season of the series:
Jashin-chan looks back on the day Hanazono Yurine summoned her. So long as Yurine lives, Jashin-chan can’t return to Hell. So Jashin-chan writes Yurine’s name in her “Death NOT” and swears that she’s finally going to land that dropkick on Yurine. Meanwhile, a former subordinate of Pekola and Poporon, Pino, shows up. Pekola is overjoyed believing God has finally sent someone to bring her home; however, in Pino’s hand is a weapon…
