Pompo: The Cinephile Anime Film Land Teaser, March 19 ReleasePompo: The Cinephile is headed to cinemas. The anime film, first announced way back in February, was originally scheduled for 2020, but, well, y’know.

Today we got our first look at the film with a teaser that also revealed some cast details, plus a release date: March 19, 2021.

Pompo will be directed by Takayuki Hirao, who helmed the fifth Garden of Sinners movie and God Eater. It’ll be animated at CLAP and feature character designs by Shingo Adachi (Sword Art Online).

The cast, announced today, includes:

Hiroya Shimizu as Gene Fini
Konomi Kohara as Pompo
Rinka Otani as Nathalie Woodward
Ai Kakuma as Mystia
Akio Otsuka as Martin Braddock

Based on the manga of the same name, the film is about Joelle Davidovich Pomponette, aka Pompo, who produces B-level entertainment films. The story kicks off when she suggests her assistant, Gene, direct her latest screenplay.

The manga is written by Shogo Sugitani. It launched on Pixiv in 2017.

As a cinephile myself, I’m definitely looking forward to Pompo: The Cinephile.
