Shochiku and ASMIK Ace shared a new trailer for the upcoming live-action adaptation of CLAMP’s manga xxxHOLiC. In it you can hear the theme song “Habit” by the band SEKAI NO OWARI.
The movie is being helmed with Mika Ninagawa as the director. Ninagawa previously worked on the live-action Sakuran as well as Helter Skelter. Erika Yoshida wrote the script, and the music is being composed by Keiichirō Shibuya.
Ryunosuke Kamiki is playing Kimihiro Watanuki, Kou Shibasaki is playing Yuuko Ichihara, Hokuto Matsumura is playing Shizuka Doumeki, Tina Tamashiro is playing Himawari Kunogi, Daoko is playing Marudashi “Maru,” Serena Motola is playing Morodashi “Moro,” Shuri is playing Misaki, and Nanase Nishino is playing Nekomusume.
Kodansha publishes the xxxHOLiC manga in America, after it was previously published by Del Rey. They gave this description of the first volume of the omnibus format:
“Kimihiro Watanuki is haunted by visions of ghosts and spirits. He seeks help from a mysterious woman named Yuko, who claims she can help. However, Watanuki must work for Yuko in order to pay for her aid. Soon Watanuki finds himself employed in Yuko’s shop where he sees things and meets customers that are stranger than anything he could have ever imagined.”
There’s no word if it’s going to get anything of a North American release in theaters, but it will be debuting at Japanese theaters on April 29. There was also recently a stage play that occurred last year in Kyoto and Tokyo, giving fans another opportunity to see real people play CLAMP’s characters instead of just seeing them as 2D.
