A live-action film adaptation was recently revealed for CLAMP’s xxxHOLiC manga, and now we have two more cast members to look forward to when it premieres in Japan on April 29, 2022. The latest announcement has SixTones idol group member Hokuto Matsumura joining the cast as Shizuka Doumeki, while model/actress Tina Tamashiro plays Himawari Kunogi.
Both cast members shared a message, so see what they had to say below.
Hokuto Matsumura:
I have long been a fan of director Ninagawa’s work, and have admired the world view that exists there. On the set, I spent my days feeling as if I were swallowed up in the Ninagawa world. I was pulled along by the persuasive power that Kamiki-san and Shibasaki-san presented through their performances. I tried my best to keep up with them. I am very happy to have been a part of this film that has stimulating images and sensitive messages.
Tina Tamashiro:
This time, I am playing the role of Himawari Kunogi. She has high twin-tails and looks cute and energetic at first glance. “A girl like that in the Ninagawa team?” I was surprised for a moment, but of course, Himawari has her own secret, too (laughs). On the set, I had many scenes with Kamiki-san and Matsumura-san, and no matter how serious the scene was, once it was done, the three of us chatted like real classmates, or we were separated each other. The three of us with free spirits had a lot of fun while shooting. When I was in the same scene with Shibasaki-san, she looked just like her character, Yuko, so I listened to the director’s direction while secretly feeling nervous. To the voices saying “A live-action version of xxxHOLiC?” and “How do you do that?,” director Ninagawa responded like “That was unexpected!” She was very cool again.
Previously announced cast includes leads Ko Shibasaki and Ryunosuke Kamiki. Mika Ninagawa (Sakuran, Helter Skelter) is directing the adaptation, the shooting of which is already complete.
