The live-action film adaptation of CLAMP’s xxxHOLiC manga is on the way to theaters in Japan on April 29, and a new cast addition has been revealed ahead of its debut. The latest cast member is Shuri, who will play an Ayakashi-possessed client known as Misaki, pictured above.
Previously announced cast members include leads Kou Shibasaki as Yuko Ichihara and Ryunosuke Kamiki as Kimihiro Watanuki, followed by SixTones idol group member Hokuto Matsumura as Shizuka Doumeki and model/actress Tina Tamashiro as Himawari Kunogi. Mika Ninagawa (Sakuran, Helter Skelter) is directing the adaptation, the shooting of which is already complete.
xxxHOLiC launched in 2003 and ran until 2011. with plenty of spinoffs, adaptations and other works following. Here’s how Kodansha describes it:
Kimihiro Watanuki is haunted by visions of ghosts and spirits. He seeks help from a mysterious woman named Yuko, who claims she can help. However, Watanuki must work for Yuko in order to pay for her aid. Soon Watanuki finds himself employed in Yuko’s shop where he sees things and meets customers that are stranger than anything he could have ever imagined.
