Studio Ghibli Co-Founder Isao Takahata Passes Away

Renowned anime director and Studio Ghibli co-founder Isao Takahata has passed away at age 82. As Yahoo! News Japan reports, the sad news comes after Takahata was recently hospitalized for heart-related conditions.

Isao Takahata co-founded Ghibli along with Hayao Miyazaki and Toshio Suzuki in 1985. His directorial works over the years have included 1974’s Heidi, Girl of the Alps, 1988’s Grave of the Fireflies, 1994’s Pom Poko, and 2013’s The Tale of the Princess Kaguya.
