Short Anime Video Shows What Life Is Really Like For Animators

Being a professional animator for anime in Japan may sound glamorous, but the pay often leaves animators in the poverty zone. The Animator Dormitory Project, which both helps animators and gives them a more affordable place to stay, shared a video about a new animator and her earnings. The video is in Japanese with English subtitles.

As you learn in the video, the animator Ryoko made a yearly salary of 668,000 yen. That’s about $6,382.11. Take a look at the whole 12-minute video to learn more of what an animator’s life is like.
