Earlier this year we got the official reveal for the new Monogatari anime, which will adapt the Off Season and Monster Season novels in the series by NisiOisin. The Monogarari Series: Off & Monster Season project will kick off later this year with the Orokamonogatari story, and after another enigmatic tease it has been confirmed that YOASOBI will perform the theme song.

Whether it’s the opening or ending theme is currently unclear, but we do know that the song is titled “UNDEAD.” According to YOASOBI composer Ayase, the group has “always had a fondness for the Monogatari series” and Ayase has always answered Bakemonogatari when asked about their favorite anime.

The Off & Monster Season anime is being directed by Midori Yoshizawa (Magia Record: Puella Magi Madoka Magica Side Story), with Akiyuki Shinbo supervising, serving as chief director and co-writing with Fuyashi Tou. The series also marks the return of character designer and chief animation director Akio Watanabe at anime studio SHAFT.

Based on the novel series by NisiOisin, the first anime adaptation in the series, Bakemonogatari, aired in 2009. There have been four Off Season novels in OrokamonogatariWazamonogatariNademonogatari and Musubimonogatari, and the Monster Season novels include Shinobumonogatari, YoimonogatariAmarimonogatariOgimonogatari, and Shinomonogatari.

Crunchyroll streams various Monogatari anime series and describes the original Bakemonogatari story like so:

“Bakemonogatari” (translated “Ghost Story”) was written by Nisioisin, one of the most popular writers in Japan, and the series consists of 5 different stories. Thanks to Meme Oshino, Koyomi Araragi, a high school student, is able to remain a human after coming across a female vampire…
