New Fighting Game Features Oreimo, Sword Art Online Characters

Hey, like, what if Kirino from My Little Sister Can’t Be This Cute and Asuna from Sword Art Online fought each other? Would the universe fold in on itself and implode?

Well, folks, we’re about to find out, because Dengeki Bunko, the publisher behind light novels like Orelmo and SAO, is celebrating its 20th anniversary in style: by making an arcade fighting game featuring its most enduring characters from the past two decades.

It’s going to be called Dengeki Bunko FIGHTING CLIMAX, and so far, the announced playable characters include Mikoto Misaka from A Certain Scientific Railgun, Kirino Kosaka from Oreimo, Asuna from SAO, Shana from Shakugan no Shana, and — just announced this past Sunday — Shizuo Heiwajima from Durarara!! and Kuroyukihime from Accel World.

While a developer hasn’t been explicitly mentioned in any of the press materials released so far — we know Sega’s publishing, but that’s it —  everything about the footage shown in the trailer tells me this is a French Bread joint. They’re the same guys behind the very long-running Type-Moon fighting game collab Melty Blood and last year’s Under Night In-Birth. The sound effects are even lifted straight from UNIB. It’s like they’re not even trying!

Who are you hoping to see make it in as playable characters in this thing? Here’s the wikipedia page on everything Dengeki Bunko’s ever published. Surprise me.
