Madoka Magica -Walpurgisnacht: Rising- Film Shows Off New TeaserMadoka Magica -Walpurgisnacht: Rising- is the loooong-awaited sequel to the last Madoka Magica film, Rebellion, which came out in 2013.

The film is set for winter 2024, and now we’ve got a fresh look via what they’re calling “Teaser 1.1.” The point-one here is pretty important, as it reveals Madoka herself as a magical girl.

The film features the return of the crew of the original, including chief director Akiyuki Shinbo, director Yukihiro Miyamoto and writer Gen Urobuchi. The voice cast is back too, including Aoi Yuki as Madoka.

If you missed all the Madoka Magica excitement back in the early ‘10s, now’s a great time to revisit the iconic magical girl series. Here’s how Aniplex describes it:

Madoka Kaname is an eighth-grader who leads a peaceful, fun-filled life as a student, surrounded by her beloved family and her best friends. One day, a transfer student named Homura Akemi arrives in Madoka’s class. She is a dark-haired beauty with a somewhat mysterious disposition. Soon after meeting Madoka for the first time, Homura goes on to issue Madoka a strange warning.

Madoka also meets Kyubey, a mysterious looking white creature. He says, “Make a contract with me and become a magical girl!” To make any wish come true — Madoka didn’t know the meaning of this miracle nor its cost. An impending loss triggers a drastic change in her destiny…
