Japanese Fans Rank the Anime Characters They Want as Prime Minister

Lelouch as prime minister?!

If you follow general Japan news, you know the country held an election this weekend. While here in the real world, it looks like Shinzo Abe will keep his job as prime minister for the time being, pollsters Charapedia used the opportunity to ask readers what anime character they’d most like to lead the country.

Let’s see who they elected:

20. Frieza
Dragon Ball

19. Haruhi Suzumiya
The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya

18. Light Yagami
Death Note

17. Arslan
The Heroic Legend of Arslan

16. Akane Tsunemori
Psycho-Pass

15. Monkey D. Luffy
One Piece

14. Seijuro Akashi
Kuroko’s Basketball

13. Hozuki
Hozuki’s Coolheadedness

12. Mana Aida
Doki Doki PreCure

11. All Might
My Hero Academia

10. Hidetoshi Dekisugi
Doraemon

9. Naruto Uzumaki
Naruto

8. Kuro-sensei
Assassination Classroom

7. Gintoki Sakata
Gintama

6. Kankichi Ryotsu
Kochikame

5. Conan Edogawa/Shinichi Kudo
Detective Conan

4. Keigo Atobe
Prince of Tennis

3. Shima Kosaku
Kacho Kosaku Shima

2. Tatsuya Shiba
The Irregular at Magic High School

1. Lelouch Lamperouge
Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion

A disturbing number of villains on this list (Frieza? Light Yagami? Seriously, guys?) but after years of ineffectual politicians, maybe Japanese fans want a leader who can get things done. Or maybe I’m thinking about this too hard.

What anime character would you choose as president?
