Here’s Why The 100 Girlfriends Who Really, Really, Really, Really, REALLY Love You Earned a Guinness World Record

The 100 Girlfriends Who Really, Really, Really, Really, REALLY Love You (a.k.a. Kimi no koto ga Dai Dai Dai Dai Daisuki na Hyaku-nin no Kanojo in Japanese) already has a really long title, but it turns out it has an even longer monologue. In fact, it’s the longest monologue in the history of anime, and that’s earned it a Guinness World Record!

The monologue, which occurred in the last episode of season 2, consisted of 7,453 characters. The award itself was given to voice actor Wataru Kato, who plays main character and record-breaking monologist Rentaro Aijo.

Guinness also spoke to Kato about recording the famous scene.

“Given the massive amount of dialogue, I thought this scene would surely be recorded separately, but I couldn’t believe it – all the voice actresses playing the girlfriends sat in the back seats watching me read the entire thing,” Kato said.

He continued, “After that, we all shouted the final lines together, in the order of the script. It brought a lot of emotions. Right after I finished reading, all the voice actresses playing the girlfriends applauded and rushed over to me. Just receiving positive words from people I respect filled my heart and made me feel it was truly worthwhile.”

Seven Seas Entertainment publishes the original manga by Rikito Nakamura and Yukiko Nozawa, and gave this description for its plot:

The 100 Girlfriends Who Really, Really, Really, Really, Really Love You Plot

Aijo Rentaro has asked a hundred girls out and struck out every time. In desperation, he prays for guidance, only to be told by a god that his rejections were due to a cosmic mishap! Now this god will set things right by making sure Aijo gets one hundred dates. Except, as things often go with gods, there’s a catch: each of his one hundred dates is Aijo’s destined soulmate! Worse, if he doesn’t return their feelings, they’ll all die in horrible—and hilarious—accidents!
