The first trailer has arrived for the upcoming set of special Fruits Basket -prelude- episodes, which are on the way to theaters in Japan on February 18. In addition to the prequel featuring Tohru’s parents, the theatrical event will feature a brand new sequel story set after the events of the series and starring Kyo and Tohru. You can see the first footage of that in the video below, which also previews the theme song, “Niji to Kaito” (“Rainbow and Kite”), by Ohashi Trio.
A digest of the series will also screen theatrically alongside the prequel and sequel, so there’s plenty for Fruits Basket fans to look forward to next month. All three seasons of the new series streamed on Crunchyroll and Funimation as they aired, and the former describes them as such:
Tohru Honda thought her life was headed for misfortune when a family tragedy left her living in a tent. When her small home is discovered by the mysterious Soma clan, she suddenly finds herself living with Yuki, Kyo, and Shigure Soma. But she quickly learns their family has a bizarre secret of their own: when hugged by the opposite sex, they turn into the animals of the Zodiac!
