Eternals, the latest in a long, long line of Marvel films, just got a Japan-exclusive poster from none other than Mari Yamazaki, the creator of Thermae Romae.
Apparently the poster was quite a passion project for Yamazaki, who, according to a statement, is a big fan of Eternals director Chloe Zhao. Yamazaki writes that she was a big fan of Zhao’s Nomadland and also loved Eternals for its LGBT elements and its use of “magic hour,” that time before sunset when the light looks best.
You can read Yamazaki’s full translated statement over at ANN.
Meanwhile, Yamazaki’s Thermae Romae, which started back in 2013, is getting a new series on Netflix in 2022 called Thermae Romae Novae.
Here’s how Discotek describes the anime adaptation of Thermae Romae:
Meet Lucius Modestus, architecture is his game. On one faithful day, while struggling to create new building concepts, Lucius stumbles upon a mysterious drain that warps him to a modern-day Japanese bathhouse.
Perplexed, yet amazed, by the marvels of modern hygiene that we take for granted, Lucius returns to ancient Rome inspired to create his own spa: Thermae Romae.
Lucius’s success seems to come with more troubles, but each problem brings him on another quest to modern Japan for a solution. From a humble onsen to a toilet showroom with the latest in built-in bidet technology, Lucius’s adventures in the present are about to make a splash in the past!
