BEASTARS Creator’s Santa Claus Manga SANDA Getting Anime

Paru Itagaki, who is best-known as the creator of BEASTARS, is having another one of her manga titles turned into an anime, with Science SARU adapting SANDA. While the project has been announced, very little information is available on it, like when we might expect to see it debut. However, this image was shared to give people an idea of what to expect.

If you’re less familiar with SANDA, that’s because it hasn’t been translated into English. The plot takes place in the future, where the world is dealing with a diminishing birth rate. It’s also been described as an “unconventional Santa Claus hero action” story.

SANDA began in the pages of Weekly Shonen Champion in summer 2021, and it concluded in this week’s issue. Volume fifteen in book form will be released in Japan next month.

Itagaki’s manga BEASTARS, Beast Complex and Drip Drip have all been licensed in America by VIZ Media. VIZ gave this description for the first volume of BEASTARS:

One night at Cherryton Academy, an herbivore student is brutally murdered. Among the members of the Drama Club, the herbivores’ suspicions naturally turn to their carnivore classmates… The prime suspect? Gray wolf Legoshi. But he wouldn’t hurt a fly. Or would he? Will dwarf rabbit Haru bring out the beast in him? Or are his feelings for her…something else?

VIZ gave this description for the first volume of Beast Complex:

A tiger and a beaver who grew up together defy peer pressure to end their friendship and join forces to fight injustice. A camel journalist who passed judgment on carnivores for years spends a life-changing night with a seductive wolf. A crocodile and a gazelle must find a way to work together as chef and assistant on a cooking show with flagging ratings. A fox and a chameleon wrestle with stereotypes about each other—and themselves. And much more…

VIZ gave this description for Drip Drip:

Whenever Mako Higari comes in contact with something she perceives as dirty, she gets a massive nosebleed. How can she find a loving partner and commit to a meaningful intimate relationship when just touching another person makes her bleed out? Especially when most of the men she meets are sleazy creeps! Her first challenge might be learning to love herself… Plus, a short story starring Santa Claus as we’ve never seen him before!
