Hitoshi Iwaaki’s sci-fi horror manga Parasyte has been adapted to the screen a few times: as a pair of live-action Japanese films and an anime series about a decade ago. Now Parasyte is making its way to South Korea. The new Korean series, Parasyte: The Grey, was announced back in 2022, but now we’ve got footage, screenshots and details.
The show is directed by Yeon Sang-ho, who helmed the film Train to Busan, and stars Jeon So-nee as Jeong Su-in, who ends up living with an extraterrestrial parasite in her body, much like Shinichi Izumi in the original.
The show also stars Koo Kyo-hwan and Lee Jung-hyun and is produced by Climax Studio and Wow Point. It’s set to hit Netflix sometime in the second quarter of 2024.
Here’s how Kodansha describes Parasyte:
They arrive in silence and darkness. They descend from the skies. They have a hunger for human flesh. They are everywhere. They are parasites, alien creatures who must invade—and take control of—a human host to survive. And once they have infected their victims, they can assume any deadly form they choose: monsters with giant teeth, winged demons, creatures with blades for hands. But most have chosen to conceal their lethal purpose behind ordinary human faces. So no one knows their secret—except an ordinary high school student. Shin is battling for control of his own body against an alien parasite, but can he find a way to warn humanity of the horrors to come?
