The ultimate professional assassin just scored another major hit with the announcement that the Golgo 13 manga has surpassed the previous record for most published volumes. This comes with the publication of the series’ 201st volume, which just hit shelves in Japan on July 5 and earned Takao Saito’s manga the Guinness World Record.
Prior to this, Osamu Akimoto’s comedy manga KochiKame—or Kochira Katsushika-ku Kameari Kōen Mae Hashutsujo if you feel like belting out the full title—held the record with 200 volumes, which Golgo 13 tied. Takao Saito thanked readers for their support over the years and seemed surprised that the record had been achieved in his response.
The Golgo 13 manga kicked off in Shogakukan’s Big Comic magazine back in 1968. Here’s the cover for volume 201:
