Tezuka Cultural Prize Nominees Include Demon Slayer, Jujutsu Kaisen

The nominees for the 25th Annual Tezuka Osamu Cultural Prize have been announced! The award seeks to reward manga that follows Tezuka’s tradition, and this year nine titles are in the running.

Without further ado, the nominees are: I Want to Hold Aono-kun so Badly I Could Die (Aono-kun ni Sawaritai kara Shinitai) by Umi Shiina; Kashikokute Yuki Aru Kodomo (Children With Brains and Courage) by Miki Yamamoto; Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba by Koyoharu Gotouge; Jujutsu Kaisen by Gege Akutami; Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End (Sōsō no Frieren) by Kanehito Yamada and Tsukasa Abe; Bara wa Shulaba de Umareru [70 Nendai Shojo Manga Assistant] Funtōki (A Rose Born in Shulaba: The Work Log of a ’70s Shojo Manga Assistant) by Nami Saso; Peleliu: Guernica of Paradise (Peleliu: Rakuen no Guernica) by Kazuyoshi Takeda; The Promised Neverland by Kaiu Shirai and Posuka Demizu; and Land by Kazumi Yamashita.

In order to be in the running, the manga series had to come out with a compiled collection sometime last year.
