If you’ve ever played Grand Theft Auto, Yakuza or the like, you’re going to get a kick out of this.
A group of Tokyo YouTubers called Komazawa Isolation have taken advantage of Tokyo’s relatively empty streets to create a hilarious parody of GTA-style games.
The video, titled Grand Theft Gotoku (Yakuza) Solid, features actors perfectly recreating the uncanny valleyish motions of 3D video game characters, including a slightly ape-like gait, sudden turns left and right and janky collision detection.
The story kicks off in Shibuya, where the main character wakes up after being dispatched by some baddies while on a date with his girlfriend. He eventually tracks them down using Metal Gear Solid-style sneaking tactics. Yes, a cardboard box is involved.
From the performances to the camerawork to the CG effects, his is a seriously impressive (and lol-inducing) piece of work.
