One of the best matches in the anime adaptation of Haruichi Furudate’s Haikyu!! manga is the season two showdown between Karasuno and Aoba Johsai. Have you ever wondered how these sports anime matches would hold up under the scrutiny of a pro player, though? The world’s top volleyball player, Kim Yeon-koung, is here to weigh in on Haikyu!!.
Kim—who is described as having the “body of Russia, power of the United States, technique like Japan, and the quickness of Brazil” all in one—reviewed a clip from the match on her YouTube channel. According to the current caption of South Korea’s national team and 2012 London Olympics MVP, the plays in the anime are “high level.”
She went on to say that the manga’s creator “is a person with a high level of volleyball knowledge.” As if all the other achievements weren’t enough, Kim previously played volleyball in Japan for JT Marvelous and emerged victorious in the process, so she knows a thing or two about the skills on display.
