Funimation and Sentai Filmworks Launch Crowdfunding for Harvey Relief

We know of FUNimation and Sentai Filmworks as two companies that do a great job of bringing us fun anime, but now they’re doing a great job by helping people impacted by Hurricane Harvey.

Since the two companies are headquartered in Texas, it’s no surprise that this is especially personal to them. According to Sentai, a number of their employees have been negatively affected, and they have a GoFundMe page specifically to help their workers. The company wrote:

“Dear Anime Community,Hurricane Harvey has wreaked devastation on our beloved Houston and adversely affected numerous Sentai employees. Many have been left homeless, car-less, or have been displaced seeking refuge elsewhere.

Please help us get our Sentai Team back on its feet and raise $500,000 to assist our employees and their families in this time of need. 100% of donations will go directly to affected employees. No donation is too small!

Please help spread the word to friends, family, and colleagues via text, email, or social media.

All Our Best,

Sentai Filmworks”

So far they’ve raised about $10,000.

Meanwhile, FUNimation is fundraising in a more general sense. They explain on their Crowdrise page:

“The devastation caused by Hurricane Harvey is enormous and continues to impact people across the Gulf.  Funimation is based in Texas, and here we are witnessing neighbors helping neighbors in heroic acts of bravery — we want to help.We don’t know when the storm will let up, but we do know that right now people are without basic needs. Some have lost everything and people will be affected for years to come.

Funimation is donating $10,000 towards Hurricane Harvey relief efforts. Funimation will also match the first $25,000 raised through this campaign.

Contributing at any level matters. Funds will immediately help the organizations and the people on the ground.”

At the time of this writing, they’ve raised about $40,000. If you want to know specifically where your money goes, they have a list of charities you can donate to: the American Red Cross, SPCA of Texas (to help animals affected), Food Bank of the Golden Crescent, Texas Diaper Bank, Team Rubicon, Texas Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster, United Way of Texas, and Direct Relief USA.

When people come together, a lot can be done. Let’s show what anime fans are made of.
