Yuri!!! on ICE Anime Film Canceled

It’s been seven years since the staff of the Yuri!!! on ICE anime revealed plans for an anime film followup, with Yuri!!! on ICE the movie: ICE ADOLESCENCE first penciled in for a 2019 release. A few delays followed, but we didn’t get any tangible updates beyond that. Now, the official website and social accounts have confirmed that the Yuri!!! on ICE anime film has been canceled.

The folks behind it shared statements in both Japanese and English. Here’s the full notice:

“Thank you very much for always supporting “Yuri!!! on ICE”.

Regarding the postponed release of “YURI!!! on ICE the movie: ICE ADOLESCENCE”, we have come to the decision to unfortunately cancel its production.

We deeply apologize for not being able to meet the expectations of all those who have been waiting and have continued to support us throughout these years.

The production committee and staff have been in constant discussions to create and to deliver the movie, but due to various circumstances, we have had to make the difficult decision to stop the production.

We sincerely apologize to everyone who has been anticipating its release and thank you once again for your continued support.”

The Yuri!!! on ICE anime ran from October to December 2016, with Sayo Yamamoto directing and writing along with Mitsuro Kubo on scripts, Tadashi Hiramatsu on character designs, Kenji Miyamoto on figure skating choreography and Taro Umebayashi and Taku Matsushiba composing music at MAPPA.
