Viz Adds Blood Lad and Gargantia Anime

Plenty of announcements are bubbling up at this weekend’s Anime Expo in Los Angeles, and Viz Media had a couple of new series to add to its anime lineup. Chief among them is Blood Lad, which is set to stream on Viz’s website and Hulu on Sunday, the same day it debuts in Japan.

As previously mentioned, Blood Lad is based on the manga by Yūki Kodama, and is being produced by Brains Base with direction by Buzzer Beater‘s Shigeyuki Miya. Takeshi Konuta (Library War) is handling scripts, and Kenji Fujisaka is on character designs. The series will also hit Neon Alley, along with Blu-ray and DVD, in 2014.

Viz also announced the acquisition of Gargantia on the Verdurous Planet, which streamed on Crunchyroll as it aired. Viz will stream the 13-episode series on its website and Hulu, and the license also includes home video and merchandising rights. The full series and its OVAs will hit DVD and Blu-ray next year.

Those who subscribe to Viz’s Neon Alley channel can look forward to more options with the addition of PC and Mac compatibility. Shows joining the service include Puella Magi Madoka Magica and Magi.
