We’ve talked in the past about fun anime crossovers, from Cyborg 009 vs. Devilman to that dual birthday celebration for Gundam and Hello Kitty. Since then, even more have come out… and one, Baki Hanma VS Kengan Ashura, is coming to Netflix this summer! So it’s the perfect time to have at some more crossovers, both old and new.
While you wait for this epic showdown to premiere, take a look back at some other well-matched crossovers in the anime world. And place your bets—who do you think will reign supreme this summer?
ISEKAI QUARTET
Baki Hanma VS Kengan Ashura feels like a matchup that was bound to happen. In the world of isekai, we don’t necessarily expect our dimension-jumping heroes to bump heads along the way. But in ISEKAI QUARTET, that’s exactly what happens. The series transports the stars of KONOSUBA, Re:ZERO, Overlord, and The Saga of Tanya the Evil to a secret third world: high school.
While the conceit itself is fun, our favorite part is Re:ZERO‘s Subaru and KONOSUBA‘s Kazuma comparing notes on their respective neighbor-world journeys. Many fans will already know that the two series’s creators are close friends and deliberately created their two series to be polar opposites of the genre. But seeing Subaru lament being having so many girls fawning over him while Kazuma lays out his woes is probably the realest that disparity has been.
Lupin the 3rd vs. Cat’s Eye
Master thief Lupin the 3rd has squared up against lots of fellow anime stars, from Detective Conan to Lady Oscar. But in Lupin the 3rd vs. Cat’s Eye, he’s competing with a trio of fellow thieves! The special introduced new fans to City Hunter Tsukasa Hojo’s other famous series, about three sisters who become art thieves to recover their father’s collection.
It’s not unusual for Lupin to have his eye on a valuable piece of art. But there’s more to the Kisugi sisters’ exploits: recovering this collection could help them find their missing father. What happens when these thieves cross paths?
Dream 9 Toriko x One Piece x Dragon Ball Z Super Collaboration Special!!
A team-up between Baki Hanma and Kengan Ashura is pretty big… but Shonen Jump has gone even bigger! The magazine runs some of the world’s biggest manga, which subsequently become the world’s biggest anime. And to celebrate the third year of Toriko, a three-way team-up was organized between the series, One Piece, and Dragonball Z.
Stretching across an episode of Toriko and an episode of One Piece respectively, the two-part special saw Toriko, Luffy, and Goku competing in a “Martial Eats Tournament.” When the three tie for first place, a massive battle breaks out… but that’s just the beginning of everyone’s problems!
Speaking of Dragonball Z, eat up this Reese’s Puffs cereal collab!
