The spring anime season is nearly upon us! In a few weeks, we’ll have a whole new crop of series to enjoy. There are plenty of isekai in their midst, both new and returning. And in some cases, that isekai has a unique twist!
Given how the genre has been dominating the anime landscape, it’s good to see people getting creative with these otherworldly fantasies. How exactly will they be getting creative? Here’s a look at a few of the shows we’re looking forward to:
Summoned to Another World… Again?!
We heard you like isekai, so this spring anime is putting some isekai in your isekai so you can reincarnate while you reincarnate. Summoned to Another World… Again?! puts a twist in the familiar format. After being transported into another world, Setsu Suzaki gets popular in his new setting. Then, he’s sent back to his original world, where he has to start over as a baby. Then when he becomes a teen… you guessed it, he goes back.
This harem series will turn the genre on its head starting April 8.
Why Raeliana Ended up at the Duke’s Mansion
We’re happy to see more female-led isekai making its way into the spring anime season, especially those with a storybook bent. Like other heroines before her, Park Eunha finds herself in an unenviable position in her new life. While she’s reincarnated into a book she knows, it’s not as the heroine. But the star of Why Raeliana Ended up at the Duke’s Mansion isn’t the villain. It’s worse… she’s a throwaway character.
Knowing that her murder kicks off the whole story, she decides to take matters into her own hands. Using what she knows of the tale, she starts to orchestrate her own happy ending. And the machinations will kick off on April 10.
Dead Mount Death Play
Demon lords, reincarnation, magic, and other worlds. Sounds like a typical isekai, right? This spring anime entry turns that formula on its head. Dead Mount Death Play flips the script. Instead of an Earth teen becoming a magical being, a magical being becomes an Earth teen! That’s what happens when the Corpse God tries to set up a reincarnation spell to save his life. The spell works… but places him in the body of Polka Shinomiya, a recently-deceased boy from our world.
How and why does this happen? Believe it or not, there are answers… and they’ll begin to reveal themselves when the series kicks off on April 10.
