Seven Times When The Anime’s Designs Were Wildly Different Than the Manga

When it comes to respecting their source material, some anime are more faithful than others.

There’s a new list making the rounds on Japanese social media that lists seven times anime adaptations had wildly different character designs than the manga (or light novels) on which they were based.

Just how different can they be? And is a bit of change necessarily a bad thing? Check out the list and see what you think.

Flowers of Evil

My Monster Secret

Encouragement of Climb

Maria the Virgin Witch

Whisper of the Heart

Irresponsible Captain Tylor (Note: source is a series of light novels, not manga)

Hyōka

As several commenters on social media pointed out, it’s actually pretty normal for character designs to change from manga to anime, as they’re simply different media. Still, some of these, for better are worse, are pretty extreme.

Any others you can think of?
