Final Fantasy VII isn’t the only PlayStation classic getting a fresh coat of paint.

Capcom producer Yoshiaki Hirabayashi appeared on YouTube Aug 12 to announce a remake of Resident Evil 2, the survival horror classic originally released in 1998.

The original Resident Evil 2 was a huge hit in America, selling about 5 million copies and garnering high praise from critics.

Hirabayashi highlighted Resident Evil fans’ importance in the remake being approved, citing support for the project on Facebook, where it was originally proposed.

Hirabayashi also mentioned that it will be some time before more details on the project can be released, leaving us to speculate on what platforms and in what form the remake will appear.

In the meantime, Resident Evil fans can look forward to the upcoming Resident Evil 0 remake.

Do you have fond memories of the original RE2? What are you looking forward to in the remake? Let us know!
